My first novel BEAUTY AND ASHES was written to discover a Past filled with terror and grace. There existed an abyss in my being so silent that not even tears could reach it as I visited Beaumont Hamel, a WW II memorial, and truly understood war. The sacrifice and the pain are enormous. The novel is set during the World War II years. The loss of even one person has such far reaching and sad consequences. I believe the opposite is also true; that the survival of one person and the telling and receiving of their stories can begin to heal us. The story of a family coming to Canada is a story of success; it is the conquering fear and trauma.
PERSONALITY, POLITICS, AND THE PRINCE, A Biography of Lady Winifred Maxwell, Countess of Nithsdale 1670-1749. See the March 2022 review in the Scottish Community Magazine of the year Dumfries & Galloway Life Magazine with an interview by former BBC reporter and BBC's Man of Scotland Willie Johnston! This biography has been a true passion. I travelled to Scotland to do some research and was just thrilled with the reception. I visited two of Winifred's family homes and locations. Researching the letters of the Bonnie Prince at the Edinburgh library was absolutely another highlight in a trip filled with an astonishing amount of sunlight, and good times.
Another trip concerning this project was made to Bruges, Belgium. You'll have to read the Biography to find out why that is so significant!
Another super fun project are my latest THRILLERS.
BUILDING NUMBER FOUR An Amira Margaret Alexander Thriller. This fun tale recounts many of my first hand experiences from living in the Middle East. The second book in this series THE NUMBER IS THIRTEEN continues with Amira and her wily ways! The Third book is being polished for its release!
The SEA CHILD series is for beginning readers and kids with a dyslexic learning style. In addition the series follows the theories of social emotional learning and Lev Vygotsky. The series are chapter books written to engage those more mature readers. There are FIVE books with various themes for young readers: Climate Change, Refugees and Immigration, Finding your Passion, Bullying, and Aboriginal Heritage.
CREATING EMOTIONAL AMBIENCE WITHIN is the practical application of the theoretical foundation and ANXIETY AN INCLUSIVE APPROACH is another. It pairs well with the BACKWARD MIRROR, an early reader chapter book.
Another chapter book is GO SCHRALP IT! an active read and a mountain bike adventure written with Kalani Jones. It takes the reader to all the most awesome riding locations in the province of British Columbia, the mecca of downhill biking.
